Apple may be prepping a large 6.7-inch iPhone with the lowest price ever

Apple is yet to launch the iPhone 13 series but information about its 2022 lineup has already started doing the rounds. According to the reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via9to5Mac), Apple’s iPhone 14 series will consist of two low-end 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch flagships and two high-end 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch phones.
Interestingly, Kuo says that one of those devices will represent the lowest price ever for a large 6.7-inch iPhone. He expects the price of the big iPhone to be under $900. The current 6.7-inch iPhone flagship — theiPhone 12 Pro Max— costs $1,099. Before it, the 6.5-inch iPhone 11 Pro Max also launched at the same above $1,000 price.
Notably, there’s no mini 5.4-inch iPhone in Apple’s 2022 lineup. Kuo previouslysaidthat the smaller iPhone is being canned due to lower than expected sales.
“We believe the growth drivers for the new 2H22 iPhones will come from 1) the potential for under-display fingerprint support (using Apple’s own technology), 2) the lowest price ever for a large (6.7″) iPhone (we expect it to be under USD 900), and 3) a wide camera upgrade to 48MP for high-end models,” Kuo wrote in his investor note.
A cheaper, big iPhone sure makes sense for Apple in a market whereAndroid phonesare getting larger and more affordable by the day. During Apple’s recent trial with Epic, an officially commissioned report by the company (viaThe Verge) showed that more people are buying phones that have displays larger than six inches.
A cheaper flagship would also better place Apple against the competition in the flagship space, especially considering the slowdown in the smartphone market. It may also help the company lure Android users who are hesitant to move to the iOS ecosystem because of the expensive nature of iPhones.
