Apple’s 2022 iPhone series to bring 8K recording but no iPhone Mini
June 20, 2025
Althoughthis year’s iPhone seriesisn’t yet out the door, news of Apple’s 2022 iPhones has now broken cover courtesy of reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. In a research note to analysts quoted byMacRumors, the analyst reportedly suggests that Apple will improve the series’ camera credentials and give up on its iPhone Mini project.
The 2022 iPhone offerings may instead feature two 6.1-inch devices and two 6.7-inch devices. Two of these models may serve a lower price point while two compete in the proper flagship arena. The 5.4-inch iPhone will likely reappear this year. However, Apple will not build another compact phone in 2022, according to the analyst.

TheiPhone 12 Miniis one of the best (if only) flagship-level small phones one can buy. Despite this, it reportedly hasn’t sold as well as its siblings. As a result, Apple apparently cut its production output in early 2021, per aNikkei Asiareport.
Should Apple drop the iPhone Mini in 2022?
2022 iPhone camera improvements
While it now seems unlikely a compact iPhone will launch in 2022, the phones that do debut are seemingly due for significant camera improvements.
Kuo suggests a 48MP camera sensor will headline the H2 2022 iPhone series. The snapper is set to use four-in-one pixel binning to produce 12MP shots, and may also be capable of shooting in 8K video.
As for the 2023 iPhone series, Apple will reportedly introduce additional features like in-display Face ID tech. Kuo also suggests that periscope cameras will only debut in 2023, after initiallyslating their arrivalin 2022.
