Breaking: Google parent company Alphabet reportedly in talks to buy Fitbit
June 08, 2025
According toReuters, Google parent company Alphabet is reportedly in talks to buyFitbit. Alphabet has supposedly already put in an offer to purchase the US-basedfitnesscompany, according toReuters’sources.
No other details of the supposed potential acquisition have been confirmed, and there’s no certainty that these negotiations will lead to any deal. The price Alphabet offered for Fitbit was also not disclosed.

This Alphabet-Fitbit deal, if true, would make sense for both parties. Google has not yet put out any of its own wearables, despiteWear OS’awkward place in the wearable market. We’ve been clamoring for a Google-made Pixel smartwatch for some time, as a first-party smartwatch from Google could help turn things around for the platform.
Fitbit has also shown its prowess in the smartwatch world, especially with it being so new to the market. The company has only released three smartwatches thus far — theIonic,Versa, andVersa 2— though its latest smartwatch was met with plenty of criticism, including fromAndroid Authority.
This isn’t the first time Fitbit has been rumored for a sale. In mid-September 2019,Reutersreported the fitness company was considering a sale, though we have not heard details about the company’s plans on the matter until now.
We will be sure to update this article as we learn more about the Alphabet-Fitbit sale. Until anything is confirmed, though, take these rumors with a grain of salt.
Android Authorityreached out to both Google and Fitbit regarding the rumors, and both companies said they do not comment on rumors or speculation.
