Digital Wellbeing update brings a quick settings toggle for grayscale, app shortcut

July 26, 2025

Digital Wellbeing— Google’s newAndroid 9 Piefeature that helps track your phone usage — is still inbeta, which means Google is trying to fine-tune the app before it rolls out to everyone in the next few months. The latest Digital Wellbeing update brings a handful of small, yet welcome improvements.

Most notably, version 0.2.211650599 of the app brings a new toggle to the quick settings menu that allows you to turn on/off grayscale mode. Previously, you’d need to go to your settings menu, select Digital Wellbeing, select Wind Down, and toggle the grayscale option. Now you can do it right from your quick settings, just like you can with Night Light.

Digital Wellbeing Hands-On

Speaking of Night Light, you may now change Night Light settings from within the Wind Down section ofDigital Wellbeing.

Now, you don’t even have to navigate to your settings menu to access Digital Wellbeing — there’s a new option that lets you add an icon to your app drawer (yes!). I’m constantly playing with the settings in this app, so I’m pretty happy about this change.

While you can add a Digital Wellbeing shortcut to your app drawer, you still can’t add a Dashboard shortcut. Luckily, Action Launcher developer Chris Lacyrecently made an app for that.

Lastly, the release notes state that the Dashboard section is getting a few visual improvements.
