First 64MP phone will likely be Samsung Galaxy A70S
July 10, 2025
At the beginning of May, we heard about Samsung’s new camera sensor which will packa massive 64MP resolution, besting the current top dog: theSony IMX 586with a 48MP sensor.
When we first heard this news, we naturally assumedSamsungwould launch this 64MP sensor inside theSamsung Galaxy Note 10. After all, it makes sense for a flagship camera sensor to debut in a flagship smartphone.

However, according toET News, Samsung could be instead planning to launch the sensor in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy A70S, which is decidedly not a flagship. TheSamsung Galaxy A70launched earlier this year as an Indian exclusive at a cost of 28,990 rupees (~$416). We can only assume the A70S will be a minor upgraded variant of that device (we’ve reached out to Samsung to clarify).
The A70 features a triple-lens setup on the rear. It’s relatively certain that the primary sensor on the A70S would be this new 64MP sensor, but what the other two sensors will be we are not sure.

If we assume this to be true, Samsung could be taking a very interesting route with the 64MP sensor. As part of its mobile restructuring strategy, the company announced it would launch cutting-edge featuresin its mid-range line, rather than pack them all into its two main flagships (theSamsung Galaxy S lineand theNote line). This sensor news would be continuing proof that Sammy is sticking with that strategy.
As of now, the Galaxy A70 is not available in the United States. It is possible the A70S could come stateside but doesn’t seem likely.
According toET News, we can expect the Galaxy A70S to launch in the second half of this year.
