Galaxy Note Fan Edition (the Note 7 that doesn’t explode) gets Oreo
June 15, 2025
Despite the fact that theSamsung Galaxy Note 8is seven months old and received high praise from numerous publications (includingAndroid Authority), we still haven’t forgotten the doomed predecessor, theSamsung Galaxy Note 7, and its penchant to, you know, burst into flames.
Released between the Galaxy Note 7 and the Galaxy Note 8 is theSamsung Galaxy Note Fan Edition. Essentially, the device is a Galaxy Note 7 with a few minor changes that result in one major upgrade: it won’t combust in your hands.

Die-hard Note fans with a Fan Edition device will be overjoyed to know that Samsung is rolling out anAndroid 8.0 Oreoupgrade for the device starting today. The South Korean variants of the Note Fan Edition are getting the updates now, with the other global variants likely to follow in the next few days, according toSamMobile.
Since the Galaxy Note Fan Edition was released around the same time as theSamsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Plus, it’s reasonable to think that an Oreo update for those two devices will arrive sometime soon as well. Verizon did say it was going to roll out an Oreo update for those two devices, but it ended up being Nougatwith the latest security patches. That could mean that Verizon is prepped to roll out an Oreo update and just hit the wrong button when it posted the update notes.

Speaking of the Note line, theSamsung Galaxy Note 9 rumorsare starting to build up some steam. Speculation now is that the devicemight have an in-display fingerprint reader, which would certainly set it apart from theSamsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus.
