Google app, Assistant now receiving dark theme updates: Did you get it yet?
July 13, 2025
Google has been steadily adding nocturnal themes to its apps. In a span of two days, dark modehas been spotted onGmailfor Android and theGoogle Play Store. Now, multiple users onRedditreport they are receiving the dark theme on the Google app and Assistant on Android.
The Google Assistant is baked into the Google app, which includes the Discover feed and Search tabs. The dark theme is rolling out to all those sections of the app.

Images posted by users show a dark gray take over the background of the app. The cards in the Search carousel stand out against the background in a lighter shade of gray.
It’s not all black and white though. Colors in the Search carousel appear to be well adjusted (via9to5Google) to the dark theme. The lighter font is also pretty legible.

The whole thing looks much easier on the eyes and we’re all for Google’s new wave of darkness.
Where’s my dark mode update?
Once again, the dark theme on the Google app and Assistant seems to be a server-side update. This means you will get it without having to update the app through the Google Play Store.
Reddit users from U.K., U.S., Australia, and some other parts of the world are reporting that they are now seeing the update. Just like previous dark mode roll-outs, this one too could be a phased release from Google.
The company is racing to make dark mode available to all of its apps, given that it promised to do so by the time Android 10 becomes officially available. It has been 10 days since the stableAndroid 10 updaterolled out and that puts more pressure on Google to speed up the process.
