June 29, 2025

Google recently overhauled itsGoogle Fithealth-tracking program. However, it only updated theWear OSand mobile apps, with the web interface curiously left alone.

Now we know why the web interface didn’t get much love:Googleis shutting down the Google Fit website on May 30, 2025. Google details its intentions in a lengthy orange notification box at the top of the site atfit.google.com:

As Google makes clear in the message, the Wear OS and mobile apps are not shutting down. In fact, they are going to get “new capabilities” sometime soon, as Google pushes all of its focus to those two interfaces.

The Google Fit app looks nice and is very easy to use. However, when you compare the system to other health-tracking apps from fitness-centric companies like Fitbit and Garmin, you realize just how behind-the-curve Google really is. Therefore, it’s good news that the company is shedding some dead weight to hopefully bring Fit up to speed.

That being said, some sort of web interface would certainly be nice for those folks who want that extra bit of functionality. Therefore, we can see how this feature removal might be upsetting to longtime Google Fit users.
