Google’s slim Assistant Go app is now available for slower phones

July 04, 2025

Googlereleased its lightweight Assistant Go app to thePlay Store. This is the latest in the growing lineup of resource-friendly apps designed for theAndroid Goplatform.

Much like the regularAssistant, Assistant Go lets you use your voice to pull up weather information, send text messages, make calls, and even request general information feedback from Google. Because the app was designed to take up less storage and data, Assistant Go does not include reminders, controls for smart home devices, Actions on Google, or Device Actions. The app is also not likely to support “OK Google” or “Hey Google” hands-free activation anytime soon, either.

We are uncertain about language support, however. The Play Store listing states the app currently supports English, but itssupport pagestates it is available in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, and Thai.

We reached out to Google to get some clarification, though we assume the company will add more languages in future updates.

Assistant Go joinsFiles Go,Gboard Go, Google Go, andYouTube Goas apps designed for Android Go. Introduced duringGoogle I/O 2017, Android Go is a lightweight version ofAndroid Oreothat is designed to run smoothly on lesser hardware. The OS takes up less than half of the internal storage space asAndroid Nougat, giving devices more breathing room to hold more media and apps.
