June 23, 2025

Huawei has reportedly completed the development of a 5G compatible foldable phone.ETNewsreports that HUAWEI has shown the phone to high ranking officials at carriers in Korea, one of whom told the publication the phone was a finished product, not a prototype.

This isn’t the first we have heard about a HUAWEI 5G foldable phone; the company’s CEO Richard Yu recentlyconfirmedit was working on one. However, at the time, we didn’t know how close the company was to finalizing the device.

The only other details we have regarding a HUAWEI foldable phone is that it is thought to have afoldable 8-inch display, possibly made by Chinese display manufacturer BOE. It could also use theAndroid foldable interfacewhich will change the way apps are shown on the screen based on how the device is being held.

Rumorshave previously suggested HUAWEI would attempt to release its foldable device before Samsung. While we don’t know if this is still the case,ETNewssays HUAWEI will likely unveil the phone at MWC 2019 in February.

It makes sense that HUAWEI would contact carriers in South Korea about a 5G foldable phone as the country is expected to be amongst the first with a 5G network. Carriers in Korea are working together to roll out the 5G network inMarch next year.

HUAWEI competitor Samsung’s foldable phone is notexpectedto be 5G compatible upon release, but there are suggestions that such a variant would be released later.
