June 26, 2025
LG has a mixed record when it comes toAndroidupdates, but the company is looking to change things for the better with the opening of a Software Upgrade Center.
The center takes the form of a physical facility located at the company’s R&D campus in Seoul, South Korea. LG says the facility is “aimed at providing customers worldwide with faster, timelier, smartphone operating system and software updates.”

“The Software Upgrade Center will not only be charged with developing and delivering regular OS updates forLG smartphones, it will also be responsible for ensuring a consistent user experience on LG devices by continuously testing the stability and compatibility between hardware and software after updates,” LG wrote in itspress release.
The firm says one of the first projects will be the launch ofAndroid Oreoon theLG G6in Korea “later this month”, followed by other markets.

Updates to cast a wide net?
Should we expect more phones to get updated? Will there be any sort of commitment to updates?
“Yes, the idea is not only to cover more models but push out updates faster,” LG global communications director Ken Hong toldAndroid Authority, adding that there wasn’t a “specific timetable or schedule” right now.
Though Android Oreo is taking its time to come to the G6 andV30, LG has been capable ofspeedy updates in the recent past. Here’s hoping for a return to those Nougat days soon.
