Nokia 5.1 Plus leak shows another phone with a notch

June 08, 2025

HMD Globalhas had a packed 2018 when it comes to budget-minded phones, revealing everything from theNokia 1to theNokia 7 Plus. It might not be done yet, either, apparently working on the mid-range Nokia 5.1 Plus.

The OnLeaks Twitter account posted renders of the phone over the weekend, saying it was based on factory CAD designs. And it looks like a pretty neat design for a mid-range handset, featuring a metallic rim and what could be a glass back.

In saying so, the polarizing display notch is here too, which could mark the second time HMD has slapped a notch on one of its phones (after the China-onlyNokia X6). The notch on the new phone is supposedly wider than the cutout seen on the X6, for what it’s worth. We also have a headphone jack atop the device, so the company might not be going full-in on 2018 trends.

Otherwise, we see two other Nokia X6-inspired features in the form of a vertically stacked dual camera setup and a rear fingerprint scanner.

Specs aren’t known just yet, but it’s reasonable to expect the Nokia 5.1 Plus to slot in between the vanillaNokia 5.1and the Nokia X6. The standard 5.1 offers a MT6755S chipset, 2GB to 3GB of RAM, and 16GB to 32GB of expandable storage. Meanwhile, the X6 delivers a capableSnapdragon 636chipset, 4GB/6GB of RAM, 32GB/64GB of expandable storage and a 16MP/5MP dual camera pairing.

News of a supposed Nokia 5.1 Plus comes almost a month after HMD launched the China-only X6. However, the company later ran a Twitter poll, asking users whether they want a wider release.
