RedTube wants to listen to you in the shower, for a good cause (Update)

Update (04/20/18 at 1:00 A.M.):A RedTube representative has clarified privacy concerns, noting that nothing is actually recorded.
“The application matches the sound of the shower in the background and uses that as a base to determine when the water is turned off. Audio is not recorded or stored anywhere,” the representative elaborated.
We also received a breakdown of points, with a minimum shower time of one minute delivering 100 points. A two minute shower nets you 90 points, a three minute shower gives you 80 points, all the way down to nine minute showers offering 20 points.
“If the shower takes less than 1 minute, it does not count and it is considered cheating.”

The Save Water Challenge app lets users accrue points for spending a short amount of time in the shower. Once you hit 350 points, they can then be exchanged for a week of RedTube Premium. The paid offering is an ad-free, HD experience, delivering exclusive content and VR clips if you’ve got a VR headset.
Shorter showers will reward users with more points, the company notes in a press statement. Don’t go thinking you’re able to just turn your shower on for less than ten seconds and accrue points, because that’s what I tried to do…
The app is limited to one shower per day, so if you’re a bit of a clean freak, you’ll just have to be happy with one timed shower. It also means you’re able to’t pass your phone to everyone else in the house to rack up a high score. It makes sense though, as the app is about saving water anyway. RedTube probably wouldn’t be happy giving away too many premium plans.
