June 26, 2025

Yesterday Samsung officially announced the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, further refining the design language first introduced with the Galaxy S6 series. One thing Samsung wasn’t so clear on was the processor inside the device. We were told that, depending on the market, you’d either see a Qualcomm or Exynos chip, but that’s about as detailed as Samsung got.

Later in the day, it was actually UScellular that first confirmed the US version would have a Snapdragon 820. But what about the markets that are using the Exynos? Samsung has now formally announced theExynos 8 Octa, its 2nd generation premium mobile processor on 14nm FinFET technology, is being utilized in the Exynos version of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.

Samsung claims the Exynos 8 Octa offers improved performance by 30% and 10% better power efficiency when compared to its predecessor, the Exynos Octa 7420. What that means when it comes to real life use has yet to be seen just yet. It’s also hard to say which will prove to be the better performer in the long run, the Snapdragon 820 or the Exynos 8.
