Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 could hit stores before S11 series

Samsung teased itsclamshell Galaxy foldable phoneearlier this year, and we sawpurportedly leaked picturesthis month. It now looks like release information is next to leak, and the new phone could be coming very soon.
According to Korea’sYonhap Newsoutlet, Samsung will launch the clamshell foldable phone (said to be the Galaxy Fold 2) alongside theGalaxy S11 seriesin February. But the outlet adds that the new foldable will be available for sale “immediately” after the event.
It’s unclear if this release timeline only applies to the home market of Korea or if it applies to the likes of the US and Europe as well. But Yonhap’s sources say Samsung is in talks with all three mobile carriers in Korea to release the device.
The sources add that the Galaxy Fold 2 (or whatever the new foldable is called) will have a price in the “mid-$1,000 range.” This is slightly more expensive than the ~$845 price claimed by theKorea Herald. Meanwhile, the originalGalaxy Foldhas a retail price of roughly $2,000.
Either way, it suggests that Samsung has far more confidence in this design than it did in the original Galaxy Fold. The Korean firm pushed its original Galaxy Fold launch backfrom April to Septemberafter reviewers reported major display defects.
Samsung’s new foldable is alsotippedto offer ultra-thin glass on the main screen, enabling better scratch resistance. So it looks like the new phone will be better than the Galaxy Fold in at least one way.
