Sony readying its first handset without a headphone jack?
July 11, 2025
Though it might be an unpopular move, it looks like the headphone jack could be on its way out of the Android landscape. We’ve seen several OEM’s adopt this headphone jack-less approach in the past year, including Google and HTC, and it looks like Sony might take this path soon too.
A Sony device has just passed through theFederal Communications Commission(FCC) with schematics that strongly indicate it won’t come with a headphone jack. This is accompanied by a table that also suggests audio will be provided via the USB Type-C port.

This was discovered byXperia Blogand it could be another nail in the 3.5 mm headphone jack’s coffin. Sony typically offers a variety of software options to improve sound quality in its devices, making the Xperia range a good choice for audiophiles. It’s also one of the world’s biggest producers of audio products. If it decides to drop the headphone jack from its phones—and potentially its other gadgets— it could have industry-wide repercussions.
The FCC listing also suggests the phone’s dimensions will come in at 152.79 x 72.42 mm and that it will have a 5.7-inch. No other specifications were revealed, nor was anything regarding the phone’s name, but it’s likely to be an upcoming flagship.
