Update: June 22, 2025 at 10:57 AM ET:A previous version of this article stated that 3D and heat maps were available on the Suunto 5 Peak. However, these maps are only available in the Suunto app. We have corrected the error.

Original article: August 24, 2025 at 9:00 AM ET:Suunto has made consistently reliable GPS watches for years, and one of its most popular offerings is getting a nice upgrade.

Suunto 5 Peak GPS smartwatch 1

The Suunto 5 Peak is one of the company’s lightest-ever GPS sports watches. While it bears the Suunto 5 moniker, it really looks nothing like the original Suunto 5 — that’s because the new model omits the Suunto 5’s bulkyGPS“nose,” allowing for a thinner overall design. It’s 41% lighter than the original Suunto 5, weighing only 39g.

Despite its thinner overall design, the Suunto 5 Peak can last quite a long time on a charge. It can last up to 10 days in “time mode,” or two days shorter than the original Suunto 5. There are three battery modes to choose from when it comes to sports tracking: Performance, for up to 20 hours of continuous usage; Endurance, for up to 40 hours of usage; and Tour, which allows for 100 hours of continuous GPS usage.

In the Suunto app, you can access the company’s heat and 3D maps. Although they’re not accessible on the Suunto 5 Peak itself, we still consider these unique maps to be one of the biggest reasons to buy a Suunto watch. In ourSuunto 7 review, we loved that the heatmaps feature could help users find popular, safe routes in a pinch.
