July 10, 2025

We’re getting a look at what could be the upcoming foldable phone from Samsung. The leak comes fromLetsGoDigital,a Netherlands-based site that has previously leaked information on the device. The renders appear to come from a patent filing with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The device allegedly goes by the Galaxy X moniker and will launch later this year or early next year.  We’ve heard reports that production is ramping up soon and that Samsungdisplayed the device behind closed doorsatCES 2018. The Galaxy X is rumored to have a 7.3-inch OLED display that folds inside. Early reports suggested that the device might also come with a stylus. That could line up with comments made by DJ Koh, head of Samsung’s mobile division, saying the phone would part of the Note lineup, rather than its own line. Koh stated, “Samsung has the foldable smartphone in its roadmap for the Note series and is currently working to solve a series of hurdles before unveiling it next year.”

The device is said to use use a polyimide film to achieve a foldable display. The film is lightweight, flexible, and resistant to heat and chemicals, which makes it ideal for a foldable device. We could have seen the device as early as Q3 2017, but according toBusiness Korea, the display parts supplierwouldn’t have a manufacturing facility ready until January 2018.

We know the device is getting close. According to patent filings, Samsung has worked on foldable devices for years, but just recently started to comment on the possibility it may release one. We’re also seeing a steady drip of leaks which points to an official announcement sometime this year. We’ll stay on top of this story and bring you more as it breaks.
