To prove it is all-in, Google Research is now Google AI

July 09, 2025

For years now, the name of Google’s state-of-the-art research factions have appropriately been known collectively as Google Research. However, with Google’s commitment to being an “AI-first” company, the Google Research moniker is now gone, replaced with Google AI.

To emphasize the change, all Google Research online hubs are now Google AI hubs. For example, where once there washttps://research.google.com/, there is nowhttps://ai.google.com/. The affiliatedTwitterandGoogle Pluschannels are also updated with the new name.

If you used research.google.com for your own research or just like to keep on top of the newestGoogledevelopments, don’t worry – all research.google.com pages still exist. Any links you have saved will redirect to ai.google.com where appropriate.

The change happening now is appropriate, as it was this time last year that Sundar Pichai first stated that Google is an AI-first company. The Google CEO made the announcement at theGoogle I/O 2017keynote address. We are just about to get intoGoogle I/O 2018, so the update of Google Research to Google AI makes perfect sense.

Remember, this time last year Google was a very different brand. TheGoogle Homewas only a few months old, andGoogle Assistantwas just starting to roll out to non-Pixel devices. In the past year, Google has completely revamped itself into an AI company, just as it promised.

You can expect lots of talk about AI at this year’s Google I/O. Stay tuned!
