vivo reveals list of phones set to receive the Oreo update

vivo has listed some of its smartphones that are set to receive theAndroid 8.0 Oreoupdate.
In aforum post, the Chinese smartphone maker has announced that seven of its phones will be receiving the latest Funtouch OS — vivo’s proprietary skin — with Android Oreo. The list of smartphones includes the X20, X20 Plus, XPlay 6, X9, X9 Plus, X9S, and X9S Plus. According to the post, the vivo X20 is destined to receive the update in April 2018, but there is no such information about the rest of the crop.
While it’s always a good thing to be informed about impending updates, not all phones are treated equal by vivo. None of the phones listed above are available in India — an important point considering that vivo even has anonline store of its ownin the country. The X series is completely absent in India. vivo, however, has theY69,V7, andV7 Plusmodels available. Also, there is no specific mention of theX20 Plus UD— the first smartphone with an in-display fingerprint sensor.

It remains to be seen what new features Funtouch OS will be getting with this update. vivo’s skin is largely an iOS rip-off, but still manages to get the job done in a clutter-free and smooth UI. Some distinct features of Oreo include a native picture-in-picture (PiP) mode, background execution limits, new emojis,Project Treble, and more. Not all Oreo features can be expected to make their way into custom Android skins but here’s hoping vivo doesn’t nerf its upcoming OS update.
vivo is one of the brands underBBK Corporationthat has a strong presence in Indian and Chinese markets. While other BBK brands such as OnePlus and OPPO have most of their portfolio available in India, vivo seems to be playing a game of wait and watch. Launching their X series phone alongside existing Y and V series will surely open up more choices for the consumer.
