You can now create Spotify group playlists with friends inside Messenger
July 23, 2025
The new update to the Spotify extension inFacebook Messengerlets you create and build group playlists with others right inside the app without the need to open Spotify.
I don’t know about you, but the only times I used Facebook Messenger’s extension feature was to send GIFs via GIPHY. However, ever since Facebook integrated GIFs right into the messaging app, I’ve never felt the need to open up that “+” symbol to the very left of the text bar. Of course, popular apps like Spotify have been available there for a year or so now, but I failed to see their purpose. Until now, that is.

Spotify is updating its extension within Facebook Messenger, and now, you can create Group Playlists within the chatting app to share and collaborate with your friends. Simply click the plus symbol, open Spotify, and select “Create group playlist.” Whether you have a Spotify account or not, you will be able to add songs to the list without having to leave the Messenger app.
The update is rolling out to the extension, not the Facebook Messenger app, so you don’t need to update the app itself. you’re able to find more about it onSpotify’s official blogor by chatting to theSpotify Messenger bot.

Do you think you’ll be creating group playlists with Spotify within Messenger? Do you use Messenger extensions often? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
