You told us: You prefer the Dimensity 9000 (!) over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1

June 05, 2025

QualcommandMediaTekhave revealed their flagship processors for 2022, and they both look like premium propositions. From 4nm designs and Cortex-X2 power to capable graphics silicon and great camera smarts, they both seem impressive on paper.

Which one wouldAndroid Authorityreaders choose though? That’s what we asked a few days ago, and here’s how you voted.

MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Dimensity 9000?

Over 1,500 votes were cast after we posted the poll in ourSnapdragon 8 Gen 1 versus Dimensity 9000specs comparison over the weekend. It was a relatively close affair, but it turns out that ~54% of respondents gave the nod to the MediaTek Dimensity 9000.

Some reader comments supporting this position say MediaTek’s chipset has better specs on paper. There’s some merit to this too, as the Dimensity processor is built on TSMC’s 4nm process (expected to be better than Samsung’s 4nm process), while also supporting AV1 decoding, a newer RAM standard, and Bluetooth 5.3.

Meanwhile, almost 46% of polled readers say they prefer the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. Reader comments point to MediaTek’s lack of support for mmWave 5G, poorer GPU support for emulators, and reputation for less-than-ideal custom ROM support.

Either way, this is a pretty interesting poll result given that enthusiasts have traditionally stuck with Qualcomm over the years. It’s too early to tell whether MediaTek is now a major threat to Qualcomm in the premium flagship space, but we can’t wait for 2022 to find out.
